AION - Temporal Arteritis

Objectives: Upon completion of this conference the resident/student should be able to

Describe the

  • pathophysiology
  • differential diagnosis
  • symptoms
  • signs
  • workup
  • and treatement of

anterior ischemic optic neuropathy

Assignment: The BCSC material on ION is kind of limited. It's in the Neuro-ophthalmology volume in Chapter 4: The Patient with Decreased Vision: Classification and Management.  If you want to dig a little deeper you can read "Ischemic Optic Neuropathy" by Dr Hayreh from Iowa (attached below if you're logged in). Don't be scared by the length. It's a good read.
