The UPMC Eye Center will hold its annual Vision Research Day on June 13, 2014 at the University Club. The Keynote Speaker will be Carmen A. Puliafito, MD, MBA, and the Susruta Lecture will be given by VK Raju, MD.
Dr. Puliafito has served as Dean of the Keck School of Medicine and as Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Southern California since 2007. Dr. Puliafito is known as co-inventor of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). A leader in academic ophthalmology, he Chaired the Departments of Ophthalmology at Tufts School of Medicine, where he founded the New England Eye Center, and at the University of Miami where he led the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute to a No. 1 ranking in the US News and World Report survey.
Dr. Raju is currently a clinical professor of ophthalmology at West Virginia University where he has been teaching since 1976. Receiving his medical degree at Andhra University in India, he then traveled to the University of London to complete an ophthalmology residency and fellowship. In the U.S., Dr. Raju completed an anterior segment surgery fellowship at Louisiana State University before going into private practice in Morgantown, WV.
