Objectives: Upon completion of this conference the resident/student should have an understanding of neoplastic disorders of the ocular surface and should be able to:
- Review the microanatomy of the eyelid skin and ocular surface
- Define histopathologic processes and conditions of the ocular surface including tumor, neoplasia, dysplasia and anaplasia
- Discuss the basic principles of oncogenesis, diagnostic approaches to neoplastic disease and the approach to management of these conditions
- Describe the epidemiology, causes, characteristics and management of neoplastic disorders including:
- Epithelial cysts
- Benign, pre-invasive and malignant epithelial tumors
- Glandular tumors of the conjunctiva
- Neuroectodermal tumors
- Vascular and mesenchymal tumors
- Lymphatic and lymphocytic tumors
- Metastatic tumors
- Epibulbar choristomas
