4:30 p.m. Neuro-Ophthalmic Pitfalls: Part I, Clinical Features, Clinical Clues, & Limitations of Ancillary Testing
Following this program, participants should be able to:
1) Recognize in their practice the clinical features of several important neuro-ophthalmic disorders including compressive optic neuropathy, aneurysmal 3rd nerve palsy, arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy and decompensated hydrocephalus
2) Utilize clinical clues to localize neuro-ophthalmic syndromes such as orbital restrictive disease and ocular motor nerve compression
3) Describe the limitations of ancillary testing for the above disorders

Dr. Purvin graduated from Tulane Medical School with internship (internal medicine) and residency (neurology) at Tulane University Affiliated Hospitals. She completed a Neuro-ophthalmology Fellowship at LSU Eye Center prior to becoming Assistant Professor of Neurology/Ophthalmology at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. This was followed by positions as Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor and Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Neurology at Indiana. Currently, Dr. Purvin is Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Neurology at the Indiana University Medical Center and Director, Neuro-ophthalmology Section, Midwest Eye Institute, Indianapolis.
In addition to speaking internationally and writing numerous articles, Dr. Purvin is reviewer for 17 journals. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, Indiana Medical Society, Indiana Neurological Society, Upper Midwest Neuro-ophthalmology Group, the Frank Walsh Society, North American Neuro-ophthalmology Society (fellow) and the American Neurological Association.
